Top Diplomat Interrupts Trump with Handwritten Note on Gaza Peace Deal
An urgent handwritten note passed to the President by his top diplomat, Marco Rubio, indicated that an announcement regarding a ceasefire deal in Gaza might be made imminently.
Captured in a photograph, the note's text urged the president to approve a post on his social media platform to break the news first.
"Nearly there," it read, according to the image. "We need you to approve a Truth Social post soon so you can announce deal first."
Shortly after the note was revealed, Trump posted on his platform, expressing he was "extremely pleased" to reveal the initial stage of the agreement.
"This indicates that ALL of the Hostages will be released very soon, and Israel will withdraw their Troops to an agreed upon line as the first steps toward a Robust, Durable, and Everlasting Peace," he wrote.
The Incident the Note Was Handed to Trump
Trump was conducting a roundtable event with conservative influencers about far-left groups when Rubio, standing in the back corner of the White House's state room, caught his eye.
He had news for Trump, he said, but it would have to wait until after the press departed. Subsequently, Rubio passed the president the note.
"I was just given a note by the secretary of state saying that we're nearing completion to a deal on the Middle East, and they're gonna need me pretty quickly," Trump announced. "Therefore, we will address a couple of more questions."
Behind the Scenes of the Peace Talks
The event had already been underway for more than an hour when Rubio came forward. The president invited him to enter, and Rubio quietly spoke something to Trump before giving him the note.
The note's pressing nature coincided with Trump's key regional advisor, Steve Witkoff, Qatar's Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani and other high-ranking diplomats participated in a third round of peace talks between Israel and Hamas at an Egyptian resort – a sign that delegates aim to tackle the most challenging topics of a American proposal to halt hostilities in Gaza.
Trump's Comments on Overseas Trip
Trump had kicked off the gathering by informing the press that he planned to travel to the Middle East "toward the end of the week" and could even "visit multiple locations" in the region to Cairo and possibly Gaza as US negotiators neared completion of a deal.
Nevertheless, even after Rubio gave Trump the note, Trump continued to talk to the influencers and take questions from the media as the secretary of state became visibly anxious.
Concluding the Meeting
Almost 10 minutes after his earlier statement about departing, Trump declared: "I have to go now to try and solve some problems in the Middle East – although I'm ably assisted by our secretary of state. He could probably do an even better job than me, but who knows."
"We don't want to take any chances. So we're going to go and do that," Trump added.
He then proposed that Pam Bondi and Kristi Noem stay and take questions in his absence. However, Trump kept fielding questions before the event finally broke up without Cabinet members remaining behind.
"We will achieve peace in the Middle East," Trump wrapped by saying. "That's what we want to do."
