One 14-year-old youth was discovered deceased just days after being falsely accused of taking the cremated remains of a deceased infant during a burglary, an inquest has heard.

Heartbreaking Discovery

Kai Lloyd's parents discovered his body in his bedroom at his Flintshire residence on 19 November 2021.

Untrue Allegations Begin

The inquest learned how his parent received a communication on 8 November 2021 via social media, from a woman inquiring if her son was her offspring. The communication added: "Inform him appreciation for breaking into my flat."

In a statement read to the proceedings, Lisa Lloyd said the woman had been in the news, claiming her infant's remains had been taken in a break-in - a claim which was false.

Law Enforcement Inquiry

An investigation report from police later determined the supposed break-in complainant had "lied to police" and "evidence shows that the property was not stolen in the beginning".

News coverage about the alleged stolen remains generated online responses, and although the teenager was not identified in the posts, his mother said individuals "understood it was him".

The "social media content were extremely upsetting", she stated.

Mental Wellbeing Impact

She added that her son had been identified with mild ADHD, and as part of that condition, other peoples' opinions really were important to him.

"It would have hurt him deeply," she said, "especially when this was untrue".

The teenager was arrested at home, but no evidence was discovered. He was taken to a police station and later freed under investigation.

Police said they would be in touch, the inquest learned, but had failed to reached out to the family by the time of his death.

Isolation and Worry

His parent said her son "withdrew into himself" after the arrest and "repeatedly inquired me whether I had heard anything from the police", because his ADHD meant sometimes "a minute could seem like much longer".

When she talked to him about the supposed burglary, she said her child told her he had gone into the house because the woman who lived there had said he could utilize the toilet anytime he needed, but denied taking anything.

Digital Harassment

In a joint statement between her and her spouse, Mrs Lloyd said her son was being bullied online after the allegations.

The inquest learned that a 19-year-old urged Kai to kill himself.

She had no worries on the night before he passed away, explaining how she had listened to him "chuckling and joking".

She described him as a "compassionate, loving" boy, and said her "family is totally devastated".

He had been "obviously concealing his concerns", she said, adding that he could not bear to have anybody "think bad of him".

School Response

The hearing heard from school personnel at the local High School.

On 8 November, she "heard some students talking that Kai had been detained and that was the initial I learned".

"He told me... he'd was innocent," she continued.

After the conversation, the staff member said she rang Kai's family telephone and provided a voicemail saying she had communicated to the student about the accusations.

The proceedings heard his family said they never receive that message.

Official Conclusion

Senior coroner told the inquest he would wait for documents regarding what enhancements had been made to dealing with suspects with the condition, before deciding whether he should make a prevention of future fatalities report.

Providing a narrative finding, he said: "Approximately 8 November 2021, unsubstantiated allegations were made against Kai Benjamin Lloyd, a young child.

"Probably falsehoods were afterwards embellished and amplified through the platform of online networks.

"During November 11th, he was questioned by the authorities and following his interview he was released while investigations proceeded."

The coroner determined: "There is no evidence that the actions or failures of any organization led to or contributed to his passing and although it was the result of a self-inflicted action it is impossible to determine his purpose."
