Mystery Magenta Ooze on Remote Tasmanian Shoreline Prompts Anxiety of Possible Phytoplankton Proliferation
Agencies in Tasmania are striving to determine a magenta ooze that has appeared on a isolated coast, with some scientists worried it could be an algae outbreak.
Widespread Appearance On Beaches

A marine scientist, who collected samples of the magenta ooze in Tasmania, commented it appeared the potential proliferation had "increased notably" and suggested the fish farming business was the most likely culprit, citing comparable events elsewhere.
"Thus Tasmania needs to issue a clear message here, the officials and the environmental agency need to respond to this. We need to analyse the specimens we've taken and we need to inform the people here," she stated.
