Diving into a Unique Steam Demo: Playing as a Poop on a Quest to Arrive at the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is now live, and gamers have encountered a variety of engaging indie games. However, one is particularly notable for its unconventional concept. Titled Unko Technica, this old-school styled jumping adventure lets you play a hero that is literally a dung striving to navigate to a toilet. As a fun fact, "Unko" means "poop."
The gameplay is straightforward: just use a one button to leap. In 150 challenges, you'll face boss fights and access a shop to purchase customizations for your fecal avatar.
Execute your actions with caution, as a mistake forces starting over. Bounce on bubbles to propel the poop to new heights, traverse crumbling platforms, and interact with buttons to reveal secret routes. Earn coins for buying tougher levels in which the action intensifies.
In terms of design, the demo features neon environments and catchy background music. The simple art of morphing abstract forms could recall fans of beloved games like Earthbound.
Although hard to recall similar titles where you control a dung character, video games often included fecal matter. For example, in Death Stranding, players craft grenades from protagonist droppings. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use dung as soil enrichment. Unsurprisingly, this theme is present extensively in Obsidian's role-playing game The Stick of Truth.
Putting aside its silly premise, Unko Technica has already received impressive awards, such as being named best at a major publisher's game competition in 2023. This trial version is accessible currently on Steam, with the complete version planned to arrive on PC this November.
