2K Hires Popular Battle Royale Lead to Revitalize Struggling Action Game Project Ethos

The renowned publisher has welcomed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to lead the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently developing the anticipated over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Management Shift Follows Poor Reception

The new appointee takes on the leadership position at the development studio following the departure of previous head the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' disappointing early showing last autumn.

Recently, 2K president David Ismailer updated employees about this decision through an internal memo, which stressed that early feedback sessions had shown the requirement for a distinct game identity.

The president noted that the developers is now reimagining the project with a refreshed approach, aiming to better meet gamer demands.

A Pattern of Key Recruitment

The news mirrors a comparable move taken by 2K Games in August, when they recruited Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to work on the beloved franchise development group.

Below is the entire text from the president's communication:

Hello Everyone—

I understand you all just finished your town hall - I hope you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the positive developments. Last time I sent you all a update, I stated the following: “I believe in this team. You all are some of the most motivated and innovative creators we have had the chance to partner with - and we’re excited for that partnership to endure.”

With your dedication and flexibility, especially over the past twelve months, you continue to prove that.

The player input from last fall’s the game testing phase was revealing. It affirmed the promise of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had improvements to make. It highlighted the need for a more distinct brand.

The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve advanced. You accepted the criticism to mind and revamped the title with a refreshed goal - one that’s ready to fulfill its potential to our audience.

The belief in this project grows every day. To boost the outstanding progress you’ve made, I am thrilled to introduce the new hire as the incoming Director of the team. After some time of discussions, Ben officially joins us on the specified date.

Ben’s management and experience in the competitive gaming field is extensive, having dedicated the last 15 years developing and overseeing some of the most well-known franchises in gaming, for example Call of Duty: Black Ops, and lately, Apex Legends.

Please join me in welcoming Ben in the coming days. We are all looking forward to keep observing the development of the game in the months to follow.

The President

Experience of the Incoming Head

Brinkman presently holds the role of executive producer and production lead at the renowned studio for their flagship title. Brinkman previously worked at Treyarch and Activision in various development positions on the iconic franchise games, and, before that, had assignments at 2K and Electronic Arts.

Title Details and Vision

Project Ethos was unveiled in last year together with a community playtest. At the time, 31st Union portrayed the game as a "no-cost, third-person perspective roguelike hero shooter and an innovative advancement on the style."

"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Build your hero in real-time to match your preferred approach," the description reads. "Take on the competition with unique powers, risks, and obstacles that change every session. Do you leave securely with your collected items? Or aim high, gamble everything, and hope your team can earn top ranking? The decision is up to you."

Project Ethos has not yet received an official launch window or platforms, but enthusiasts can anticipate more updates as development continues.
